Giant's Causeway
Famous geological phenomenon on the North Antrim coast. Northern Ireland's only World Heritage Site. Legendary emblem of North Antrim's spectacular coastline Geology, flora and fauna of international importance. Coast path with info panels extends 12 miles to the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. The Giants Causeway and Bushmills Railway, runs to the world's oldest whiskey distillery.
The North Antrim Coast is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Along its beautiful coast is the world famous Giant's Causeway, an icon of Northern Ireland and its only UNESCO World Heritage Site. The impressive polygonal columns of exposed layers of basalt resulted from a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago, and today you can scramble over the smaller stones and discover the geology for yourself. If the views and the landscape don't fire your imagination, then stories of the legendary giant, Finn McCool, certainly will.
Less well known, but just as dramatic, are the series of beautiful bays beyond, which can be reached on the Coastal Path. Here you can peer over the cliff marvel at more geological phenomena, as well as delve into a wealth of local and natural history. Disabled access.
